Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. – Proverbs 21:2
It is so easy to read the Bible and judge those in the passages. Wondering how they could be so ignorant to God and His grace. How could they make so many mistakes? They were given clear instructions on what to do and what not to do. If they just obeyed God they could have saved themselves a lot of trouble…
Ah, but we seem to forget that we are acting the same exact way. We are given simple and clear instructions on how to live but then we go and outright disobey God. Why don’t we just follow His commands? It would be so much easier that way!
I can honestly say that I’ve caused myself so many problems and heartaches by not following God’s word. With that knowledge you would think I wouldn’t be so adamant about my disobedience. (Also known as sin!) Sin is fun, I’ll be completely honest with anyone who asks. But then you have to deal with the consequences of such sin. It can break relationships and hearts. The consequences may not come within the next day, or even the next week, but they will come.
If we are saved, we need to show it in our behavior and actions. I’m not saying you’ll be perfect, (I’m definitely not!) but we need to follow Christ’s example.
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. – Matthew 5:48
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. – 1 Peter 5:10
