And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. – Colossians 3:17
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. – 1 John 2:15-17
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. – Galatians 5:13
Christians are so much about “freedom and liberty” that they forget whatever they do reflects not only on them, but on other Christians and on God. We need to be careful about the message we send out to the world about who God is. If we speak about love but we act with hate, that says we are hypocrites. If we say we are different but we act the same as everyone, that says God doesn’t really change us.
Not only do your actions and words have an impact on the view of Christianity, it also has an impact on Christians around you. Whether or not you want to believe it, there is at least one person who looks up to you. They follow the example you set. They usually are younger than you, but some of them may even be older than you. If you act in a way that doesn’t honor God you can easily bring them down with you.
Your witness is not a witness about you, it is a witness about God in you. Do not think that your actions have no effect on the sharing of the Gospel. The way you act could ruin the witness of other Christians around you and therefore possibly ruin the view of God. Do not become a stumbling block to those who might be saved. Live your life in a way that honors and glorifies God.
